My Everyday Camera Gear

everyday camera gear

Several people have asked me questions about my camera gear & equipment, so I thought it’d be nice to share what I use most often on an everyday basis. Hope this helps!

My Baby

My DSLR itself is a Nikon D3200. It’s a nice, basic starter camera that I received 2 years ago. This model is a cropped sensor camera (as opposed to a full-frame – read about the difference here). Though I like it and it feels comfortable in my hand, I now wish that I got one with a swivel screen and would looove to upgrade to a full-frame. But since I don’t have a couple thousand $$$ to drop…some day! For now, I try to work with what I have. On days when I wish for what I do not have, I am forced to remind  myself that it’s not all about the equipment but the composition.

The Glass

Along with the camera body, my DSLR kit also came with 2 zoom lenses, 18-55mm and 55-200mm. The one that I use on an every day basis is the 18-55mm lens.

It zooms allll the way out (at 18mm), which appeals to me since I love taking wide, landscape shots, but it can also zoom in (to 55mm) so that I could make a portrait if I wanted to.

The other lens that I use quite often is my Nikon 35mm prime lens.

A prime lens doesn’t zoom in and out, so it’s smaller and lighter. It also has a larger maximum aperture (f/1.8) so it can let in more light. Thus, I almost always use this one in low-light situations (indoors, night photography). Another advantage of this larger aperture is that I can blur the background, which comes in handy during portrait shoots.

Carry it All in Style

Of course I have to look stylish when I’m toting around my camera! Last summer, I decided to invest in a Jo Totes Siena bag.

To me, it was a worthwhile investment because it’s my go-to camera bag when I’m out and about. It can fit my camera+ lens, wallet, phone, chapstick, and even a small water bottle! I’m just sad that I banged/scratched it so much from all the use! You can see me wear this bag in just about every picture…

That’s it! Those are my everyday photography essentials. I tote my camera & shiz around in the Siena bag and may lug around an extra lens, depending on what I want to shoot. So, readers! Was this information helpful? Would you like to see more photography-related posts where I share more of my knowledge?

What is your everyday camera gear? Do you like it (or not)?

Thanks for reading!

(I wanted to mention that this post was not sponsored. These are the products that I use and like and hope that other people would benefit from my experiences.)

  1. Really great information! I’ve stored my lenses in my purse, because I think the typical camera bags are so cumbersome and ugly! Thanks for introducing me to the Siena brand 🙂

  2. I have D3100, and the same kit and medium tele photo lenses. 🙂 I don’t have 35, but 50mm 1.8G to go with my camera, in addition to a number of flashes. While I’m pretty new in photography, the pictures that my lowest-priced DSLR on the market can provide never ceases to amaze me. I can only imagine how good of an image a real talented photographer can take using this entry-level camera.

  3. Thank you for sharing! Seems like your equipment is minimal and fuss free. I loooove that bag, will have a look. I’m searching for a camera bag that’s practical and stylish. You can hardly find them in camera stories near where I live in the city!

  5. That camera bag is great. So stylish and you rock it.

Your work is really good and I would love to see you what you could do with a full-frame sensor camera. I hope you get one one day. On the Canon side of the divide 🙂 the 6D is a great choice, but I know that switching is a complicated endeavor. I don’t know much about Nikon. At any rate, my wish remains the same, for you to get a full-frame at some point. The saturation is so lovely and it does even better in low light.

    All the best.
