Just as the title says, this 17-Mile Drive through Monterey, California was the most scenic drive I’ve ever driven. That’s not saying much, since I don’t like to drive (so my miles are somewhat limited), but this awe-inspiring route actually made me like driving! It was fun to take my time, admire the scenery, and pull over every so often to take pictures (haha I sound like a grandma)! Check them out below:
I was only too excited to dip my feet in the Pacific Ocean! The last time I was on a beach, I was on the other coast in New York…
A few more stops, and the scene changed from the calm little beach to this:
Amazing, right? Then there’s this a few stops ahead:
Playing golf on the cliffs – this is the life.
My first “major” wildlife sighting (birds don’t count), a baby sea lion basking on a rock. It’s pretty well camoflaged; can you find it?
But then we drove a little further and saw even more sea lions at its own special observation point. Little did I know this was the first in a series of sea lion and seal sightings in California (which means: look forward to the next few posts!).
I enjoyed climbing the rocks around the beach. In fact, I was a huge fan of climbing things as a kid…so I was totally in my element here!
The only thing I was bummed out about was that we unknowingly drove right past the “famous” lone cypress tree. Well, to make up for it, here’s a picture of what it would’ve looked like:
I believe cypress trees are also in the first pic of this post (with the car). But I am no plant expert – please correct me if I’m wrong!
So there ya go, 17 miles consolidated into one post. Obviously, we didn’t stop at every single place, which leads me to ask: have you ever done the 17 mile drive? What were your favorite/most memorable points of interest?
Thanks for reading!
P.S. A huge thanks to my traveling buddies, Lisa and Jiwon for taking pics of me!
